You, me and the Mice Make Three

SIMPLY SANELY

To LIVE SIMPLY SANELY

The last few years of my life have been the most painful years that I have experienced. Physical pain. I used to think that physical pain was better than emotional pain. Sometimes it is, but when every step you take and the minutes following feel like an intense lingering papercut, it’s not. That’s what everyday was like from 5/2021-3/2025. Intense pain makes it difficult to focus and think about anything other than the pain you’re feeling. So, now that I have missed 4 years of my life, I feel like I know where my focus should be. That’s to live simply and sanely. I want to share how with the world. Not that I am the “All knowing”, but sharing is caring.

I share my experiences and those of others that are helpful and insightful or just plain funny. Because laughter is truly something that is beneficial in so many ways. And if you can’t laugh at yourself, then I’m sorry. But, no worries, you can laugh at me and maybe learn what not to do.

My Story

My hermit style life these past 4 years has made me realize that I have a lot of JUNK in my trunk. Thank God for family, most of the time. I’m sure some of you can relate, family doesn’t always play fair or nice or have the best intentions. Which is crazy because I am a mother and I could never imagine doing the things that my mother has done to me, to my son. Even before I became a living nightmare of a daughter. Yet, what could I do, after 6 months of living off my savings, my son and I had to move in with grandma, whom we call nana. If anyone wonders why my son’s father isn’t helping us out, let me know, when he contacts you. My lovely ex-husband is $90,000 behind in child support. Which is also another crazy thing that I can’t wrap my head around. The prosecuting attorney’s office says that there’s nothing they can do, until he gets arrested and shows up for court. Amazing, someone steals a phone and it makes national news and the attorney’s jump all over it. But a deadbeat ex-husband actually gets a discount on child support. I say discount, because at least $4300 was taken off his account. Wiped clean. The prosecuting attorney’s office claims they have no knowledge of this, because it was before their time. I have the screenshots to prove it existed and then it disappeared. I just don’t get how they don’t know how or why it happened. They say things like this don’t happen, yet it did. Since, it wasn’t before the age of their computer system, why can’t they look it up. I know why, it’s because they don’t have any f’s to give. One office told me, “No it’s still there, he owes you $68,000.” Me, “That’s great, but IRL he should owe $72,300.” It’s the principle. He’s made 2 payments. We have been divorced for almost 15 years, my son is 16, and he was heartbroken when he tried to reach out and got nothing. I even saw that he had the correct information, and it broke my heart. I know it changed him. He has had this IDGAF attitude ever since.

All of that, got me here. Granted, it’s nana’s house, but now there’s more space inside than before my son and I moved in. She still can’t stand a single thing that I do, but her friends rave about how big her house looks and how calm it seems. I redid her basement. That should definitely cover the costs of my son and I living here for the rest of our lives, because it was bad. It was like living in a rat trap. They did stay in the basement, though. I started with removing the mice feces infested drop ceiling. I tore out the 30 year old drywall that had a pile mice feces hiding behind it almost between every other stud. After everything was down to the studs, I hired a pest control company to remove the pests. Once they were gone, I sealed the basement, I was amazed at how many holes there were that went straight outside. No need to squeeze through any cracks, there were 3 holes that were about the size of a silver dollar. 2 were from the previous deck that was attached to the house and 1 was from the cable and phone wires that were no longer needed or used.

I’ll show(below) how I redid her basement and got rid of all my things. It’s only stuff and it’s replaceable. I kept only the mementos, and all my son’s first’s. Plus, I’m pretty sure the mice got into everything in the basement. Which is mostly good, but bad because all of my furniture and household goods were being stored in the basement. I’ll also share how I secretly and slowly transformed nana’s house into a seemingly peaceful abode.
